In the spring of 2025, the Munbangsau Calligraphy Group will commemorate the poetry of Yun Dongju (1917-1945) in its fifth exhibition.
The Munbangsau group, curated by Professor Moon Chang Seok, presents 14 of the poet’s verses on 21 scrolls featuring Hangul calligraphic writing. Among them is perhaps the most iconic poem, “Prologue,” which appears in the posthumous poetry collection The Sky, the Wind, the Stars, and the Poem, published in 1948.
Another outstanding and heart-wrenching poem, “Counting the Stars at Night,” has been divided among seven calligraphers. Although all works are written in the same Royal court's writing style, the seven pieces clearly reflect the individual expression and personality of each calligrapher.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to explore the unique features of three Hangul calligraphic styles, through which the calligraphers have brought their extraordinary tribute to life, making it both diverse and exciting.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from March 31 to June 28, 2025, on the 2nd floor of the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary. Visiting hours are from 12:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday.
