TWO LINES Photo Exhibition in the LA

- Korean DMZ and German Green Belt, from Death Line to Life Line -

 July 18 – August 8, 2014

At the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles Art Gallery

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and Korean Culture Center Los Angeles will hold TWO LINES Special Photo Exhibition which focuses on the past, present, and future of the DMZ of Korea and the Green Belt of Germany – the former border line area between East Germany and West Germany.

Jointly presented by Gyeonggi Province and Yeoncheon County of Korea and the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, this special photo exhibition will be open at Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles located at 5505 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. from July 18 to August 8, 2014.

A total of 97 historical and aesthetic documentary photos will be displayed during the exhibition by worlds great photographers: Alfred Eisenstaedt, one of founding members of LIFE; Margaret Bourke-White, who took the first cover photo for LIFE; David Douglas Duncan, who published THIS IS WAR!, a photography book on the Korean War; and Robert Capa, legend of war photos as well as great photographers of Korea: Limb Eung-sik, Lee Myung-dong, Lee Kyung-mo, and Lim In-sik.

In particular, by sharing experiences of Germany, which suffered from a similar tragic division as the Korea Peninsula however succeeded in reunification, the special photo exhibition delivers the strong message, The DMZ could be reborn as land of reconciliation and life, not the symbol of division and despair.

During TWO LINES photo exhibitions in Korea that were held at Gwanghwamun Plaza and Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri in Korea last year in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the armistice of the Korean War, 1 million people visited. Last March the photo exhibition was also held in the US Congress and East Side Gallery Berlin, Germany and in April in Rosa Parks Museum, Montgomery, Alabama. At present, the photo exhibition is open at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center with around 6,000 people visiting per day.
