On May 2nd, the Korean Cultural Center in Sweden (Koreanskt Kulturcenter, KKC) hosted the May edition of our 2025 Monthly Korean Film Screening at Kulturhuset’s Klarabiografen.
This month’s screening featured MAL·MO·E: The Secret Mission (말모이), a powerful historical drama directed by EOM Yu-na. The screening was held in commemoration of both King Sejong the Great’s Birthday and the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation.
Audiences were deeply engaged by the film’s moving portrayal of ordinary citizens who risked their lives to preserve the Korean language during Japanese occupation. Many viewers were especially touched by the story’s depiction of a father’s determination to pass down the freedom to speak one’s native tongue to the next generation — a quiet but powerful act of resistance. Following the film, participants enjoyed a spirited Korean quiz session
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful evening of cinema and reflection.
Our next screening will take place on Wednesday, June 4th at 17:30 at our Center. We will be screening the Korean classic Aimless Bullet (오발탄) with English subtitles.
We look forward to welcoming you again for another inspiring K-Film & K-Fika night!
