The Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa (KCCSA) has officially launched its much-anticipated Buchaechum (traditional Korean fan dance) workshop, beginning with an inspiring first session that introduced participants to the grace and precision of one of Korea’s most iconic art forms.
Led by a guest instructor from the prestigious National Gugak Center in Korea, the workshop welcomed participants of all levels to explore the beauty and discipline of Korean traditional dance. Flowing hanbok (traditional Korean dress), delicately painted fans, and expressive arm movements came together as attendees began learning the foundations of this elegant performance style.
Buchaechum, known for its visual harmony and storytelling through synchronized movement, offers a deeply cultural experience that blends artistry with ritual. From the very first class, participants immersed themselves in this form of dance that celebrates grace, unity, and Korean heritage.
The workshop will culminate in a public showcase performance on Friday, 11 July, where participants will present what they’ve learned and bring the spirit of Buchaechum to life on stage.
KCCSA is proud to continue offering opportunities for cultural immersion through the arts, and looks forward to sharing the fruits of this workshop with the broader community.
