The Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa (KCCSA) proudly concluded its months-long retrospective exhibition, Lee Jung-seop: A Life in Lines and Longing, on 30 June 2025. The exhibition, which ran from 18 March, drew strong attendance and left a meaningful cultural imprint on visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

Featuring high-quality print reproductions from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the exhibition introduced South African audiences to the life and work of one of Korea’s most iconic modern artists. Lee Jung-seop’s evocative depictions of bulls, intimate family scenes, and dreamlike compositions resonated deeply with viewers, offering a powerful glimpse into Korea’s modern history through the eyes of a passionate and resilient artist.

Throughout its run, the exhibition was accompanied by a series of public programmes including guided tours, lectures, and a hands-on foil art workshop that allowed participants to engage with Lee’s signature techniques. The workshop, held in May, was particularly well-received, with attendees drawing inspiration from Lee’s expressive brushwork and emotional depth to create their own artworks.

The exhibition also served as an important platform for cultural dialogue, drawing in students, artists, and art lovers from across Pretoria and beyond. Many visitors expressed a newfound appreciation for Korean art and history, reinforcing the growing cultural connection between Korea and South Africa.

By celebrating Lee Jung-seop’s legacy, KCCSA not only honoured one of Korea’s most influential artistic voices but also strengthened its mission to share Korea’s creative spirit with global audiences.

The Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa remains committed to presenting dynamic exhibitions and programs that foster cross-cultural understanding and artistic exchange. More exhibitions and creative opportunities will follow soon.
