The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) hosted an exhibition titled "K-pop Meets Korean Traditional Music" in Abuja to promote cultural integration between Nigeria and Korea. The event focused on blending Korean traditional music with K-pop to foster deeper cultural exchange and awareness.
Mr. Jeon Ju Ho, Director of KCCN, emphasized that the exhibition aimed to introduce Korean traditional music to Nigerians using the popularity of K-pop as a bridge. He also expressed a desire for reciprocal exposure—bringing Nigerian traditional music to Korea—and welcomed potential collaborations between Afrobeat and Korean music.
The exhibition, in collaboration with the National Gugak Center (Korea’s main institution for traditional music), featured traditional Korean instruments and costumes like the Gayageum, Yonggo, Jing, Taepyeongso, and masks from Korean folk performances. Dance performances from Nigerian K-pop dance crew "Xtreme Movement" added excitement to the showcase.
The goal was to highlight how K-pop often incorporates traditional Korean elements and to encourage appreciation for Korea’s rich musical heritage among Nigerian audiences, while also seeking future cross-cultural artistic collaborations.
