The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brazil, in partnership with the Government of Distrito Federal and the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, successfully concluded the “Korean Film Showcase 2025”, held from July 17 to 23 at Cine Brasília. The event, which offered free admission, featured 10 contemporary Korean films exploring themes such as family, youth, and urban culture, providing an immersive experience into the sensitivity and daily life of South Korean society.
The opening ceremony on July 17 was attended by Radar Digital Brasília and featured speeches by the Korean Ambassador, Choi Yeong Han, the Executive Secretary for International Relations of the Distrito Federal Government, Paulo Cesar Pagi Chaves, and Ambassador Susan Kleebank, from the Asia and Pacific Department of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The remarks highlighted the importance of the event in strengthening cultural ties and friendship between Brazil and Korea, as well as expanding the presence of Korean culture in the country.
The opening film, “House of the Seasons”, sensitively portrayed the conflicts and reconciliation experienced by a grandson who returns to his hometown to take over the family’s traditional tofu factory, earning deep empathy from the audience.
The event aimed to increase interest in Korean cinema in Brazil and promote greater cultural understanding between the two countries.
According to the organizers, the festival was a meaningful opportunity to showcase the essence of Korean culture and strengthen the emotional connection with the Brazilian audience. They also stated that they plan to continue fostering sustainable exchange between the two countries through various cultural contents.
