The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA) partnered with the LA Philharmonic to present the “Seoul Festival” from June 3 to 10 at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA. This marked the first time in LA Phil’s history that a full week of classical performances was dedicated to a single country—Korea—as part of its Green Umbrella New Music Series.
Curated by acclaimed composer Unsuk Chin, the festival featured world premieres and U.S. debuts of works by leading and emerging Korean composers such as Dongjin Bae, Juri Seo, and Seoyoung Park. Performers included the LA Phil New Music Group, Ensemble TIMF, and celebrated artists such as Sunwook Kim (piano), Inmo Yang (violin), Han Kim (clarinet), Hankyul Yoon (conductor), and many other world-renowned Korean classical musicians.
The LA Philharmonic showcased a wide range of works by Korean composers alongside pieces by Brahms, highlighting the depth and global appeal of Korean classical music.
Audience response throughout the week was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the innovation, artistry, and emotional depth of the performances. The festival served as a meaningful platform to introduce Korean classical music to new audiences and celebrate its growing global influence.
