Events at KCCs abroad

Date: 22 September 2025

Venue: Budapest Music Center

Chin Sooyoung, a jazz pianist well-versed in the contemporary Korean jazz scene, earned his master’s degree in composition from the City University of New York.

Between 2024 and 2025, he is serving as a resident artist at the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary. Last year, he delighted local audiences with a captivating performance presented in collaboration with Hungarian jazz musicians.

The 2025 concert features artists representing various genres. Among the participants are Lim Semi, an Austria-based choreographer and dancer active throughout Europe; ROZU, who began her career as an R&B and K-pop singer; and Buen Hyun Jei, who, after graduating from the National Gugak High School and studying geomungo (Korean zither) at the Korean National University of Arts, frequently performs both domestically and abroad. The evening’s radiance is further enhanced by the extraordinary recitation of Mango, a young solo singer performing at Matthias Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica.

The event is divided into two parts: in the first, audiences will hear Chin Sooyoung’s jazz pianist standard repertoire; in the second, they can experience a poetic drama-themed performance titled “The Regained Light,” honoring the 80th anniversary of Korea’s national independence restoration. The lyrics and screenplay for the second part are written by Yi Yeongyeong, who complements the music composed especially for the occasion.
