Concert by Korean Geomungo Virtuoso Heo Yoon-jeong: 'Apotheosis'

The concert ‘Apotheosis’, performed by Geomungo virtuoso Heo Yoon-jeong, is part of the 2025 Touring K-Arts (Korean Arts in Motion) series. The production is a collaboration between the Korean Cultural Centers in Hungary and Austria, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture (SFAC), the Korea Foundation, and FromA.
Heo Yoon-jeong is a leading representative of traditional Korean music (Gugak), and her performance showcases the finest aspects of the genre. Her concerts blend traditional and creative music with contemporary, avant-garde, and improvisational elements. With her unique style, she has gained both domestic and international acclaim. By using and reinterpreting only traditional instruments and musical materials, she creates a sound deeply rooted in tradition yet strikingly modern.
‘Apotheosis’, which won the Grand Prize at the 2023 Seoul Arts Awards, expresses Heo Yoon-jeong’s deep respect for traditional Korean music. In this performance, music interweaves with dance and song in a traditional context, offering audiences a truly unique experience.
The concert features leading performers of traditional Korean music. Kang Min Su and Hwang Min Wang perform vocals and percussion; Jeong Yoon Hyeong presents pansori (Korean folk opera) vocals and traditional Korean gongs; Cho Seong Jae performs vocals, ajaeng, and percussion; Choi Yeo Ean contributes traditional singing. The guest artist of the evening is cellist Choi Gyeong Eun.
Throughout this tour spanning three countries, the essence of Korean music unfolds in its full splendor.
