Introducing the Life and Spirit of Jeju Haenyeo, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity


Korean Cultural Center in Türkiye, in collaboration with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, announced that it will hold the exhibition “Living World Heritage, Jeju Haenyeo” at the Korean Cultural Center in Ankara from November 3 to 28.







This exhibition aims to widely introduce the value of Jeju Haenyeo culture, which was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2016, and to showcase the Haenyeo’s communal spirit and ecological way of life.







Under the theme “Living World Heritage, Jeju Haenyeo,” the exhibition will feature a total of 43 items, including photographs and descriptions vividly depicting the Haenyeo’s lives and underwater work processes, as well as actual tools used by the Haenyeo. Through the exhibition, visitors will gain an in-depth understanding of Haenyeo culture, not only through their livelihood activities but also through their sustainable lifestyle, strong sense of community, and the social role of women.
