From November 4 to 24, SESI-SP’s digital art gallery presents the work “Golden Mold” by artist Seungyoun Lee. The initiative is organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, produced by Seletivo.art and TRANSiPOT Art, with support from Centro Cultural FIESP. The exhibition is part of the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil’s efforts to promote sustainability through art in celebration of COP30.

The presentation transforms the content of the book Floresta do mofo dourado by Seungyoun Lee into a large-scale audiovisual installation projected on the façade of SESI-SP’s digital art gallery on Avenida Paulista.

The work invites the public into a sensory immersion exploring the hidden systems of nature and the interdependence between life, death, and regeneration.

About the work

This piece focuses on an imaginary mushroom tree called the Golden Mushroom and narrates the moment when two different worlds meet within the same forest. The Golden Mushroom emerges from the ecology of fungi that are reborn after death. Mushrooms and fungi grow on fallen trees, dry leaves, and the bodies of vanished creatures, returning nutrients to the forest cycle. Death becomes the link that generates new life.

Sixteen Golden Mushroom trees appear throughout the work. Each tree has unique movements and characteristics, and in every scene, animals and plants that harmonize with the tree appear, expanding the narrative. The sixteen trees are connected by underground golden footprints. These footprints act as an invisible mycelium network, sustaining the forest and connecting all forms of life.

The protagonist, Hwanggeum, leaves his world and, as he passes by each tree, adds light to the golden footprints. When he reaches the center of the forest and joins hands with the forest’s energy, the trees transform into a gigantic forest that becomes a world of regeneration, where death and life intertwine. The story follows a repetitive structure, blurring the boundaries between beginning and end, reflecting nature’s continuous cycle.
