After its success in São Paulo, the exhibition “In Search of Hansik” arrives in Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, bringing Korean gastronomy to even more Brazilians.
Organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil (CCCB) in partnership with Editora Melhoramentos, the exhibition is based on the photo-book Coreia do Sul: Cores & Sabores (South Korea: Colors & Flavors), written by food critic and culinary writer Carlos Eduardo Oliveira. The book was released in November by the publisher with support from the CCCB.
The exhibition focuses on the book and on Korean cuisine (hansik), with the aim of introducing South Korean food to the Brazilian public through an immersion in the colors, flavors, and millennia-old traditions that connect Korean and Brazilian food cultures.

Korean culture — literature, cinema, TV series, and pop music — has sparked curiosity around the world, encouraging many to explore South Korea more deeply. And there is no more intimate way to understand the soul of a culture than through its flavors. Even more so when South Korea’s passion for food has so much in common with Brazil’s: abundance, warmth, family recipes passed down through generations, hearty dishes, and a remarkable diversity of tastes.
In this book, Carlos Eduardo Oliveira recounts, in quick and captivating chronicles, his journey through South Korea, visiting restaurants, markets, producers, and hidden local favorites in search of the gems of hansik, Korean cuisine. His discoveries are countless: street food, drinks, sweets, generous meals, quick snacks, and foods that nourish both body and soul — all revealing the richness of this millennia-old culinary tradition.
Sweet, salty, sour, sweet-and-sour, rich, succulent: the flavors unfold into habits and customs, into unique ways of celebrating food and its power to nourish us both physically and symbolically.
The book also features 18 step-by-step recipes, true culinary masterpieces: kimchi, the incomparable spicy napa cabbage found at every meal; tteokbokki, chewy rice cakes cooked in gochujang-based sauce; bibimbap, steaming hot rice with vegetables and meat served in a stone bowl; japchae, sweet-potato noodles, an excellent option for vegetarians; and hotteok, sweet pancakes perfect for a rainy afternoon — among many other delights.
May the reading be as flavorful as the paths it reveals through the Asian tiger.
