On December 17, the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand hosted the event ‘2025 Kimjang Day’ at Korean Town in Bangkok, Thailand.
On that day, more than 250 participants, including residents of Bangkok as well as representatives from government agencies and diplomatic missions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, took part in a kimchi-making activity using napa cabbage from Haenam and locally sourced Thai vegetables.
During the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Yongmin Park, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, stated that while many Korean dishes are currently loved by people around the world, the first Korean food to become widely known globally is the dish that gives Koreans a sense of their homeland, ‘Kimchi’. He also expressed his pleasure at making kimchi together with the people of Bangkok, noting that kimchi-making is a cultural tradition that represents unity within the community and that Bangkok is a city at the forefront of international food trends.
The Center also invited the Korean performance group ‘Arahan’ to present a range of lively traditional performances and folk games, including Mungut, pungmul performances, beona spinning, jukbangul juggling, and a lion dance, creating an engaging and joyful atmosphere for all participants.
Following the kimchi-making activity, the Korean Cultural Center, in cooperation with Korean restaurant associations, prepared a variety of dishes that pair well with kimchi, such as celebratory Korean noodles, grilled pork belly, kimchi pancakes, and soft tofu with kimchi, allowing all attendees to enjoy and share the flavors together.
We will continue our efforts to actively promote and share Korean culture and cuisine in the future.
