Events at KCCs abroad

Established in 1988, the Seoul Arts Center stands as a beacon of art and culture in South Korea, showcasing a diverse range of domestic and international performances. SAC on Screen is a performing arts screening program organized by the Seoul Arts Center, enabling audiences around the world to enjoy outstanding cultural content.

The Korean Cultural Center in Hungary will present a selection of high-quality Korean performing arts productions to be screened in 2026. The first screening will take place at the end of May, on the occasion of Children's Day. A Bird Story (Bongjangchwi) will be screened for families on 29 May.

This fairy-tale play introduces the unique world of traditional Korean musical instruments through the story of two little birds. The concept was inspired by a popular form of entertainment from the late Joseon period, Bongjangchwi, a musical performance based on the motif of the phoenix. While only the musical interludes have survived to this day, the original script has been lost.

The troupe, named after the phoenix and consisting of four performers, plays traditional Korean instruments such as the gayageum, haegeum, and janggu while narrating the story. Using these instruments, they imitate birdsong and the sounds of nature. In this evocative fairy-tale world, the story comes to life with the help of puppets and props made from natural materials.

The event is free of charge, but advance registration is required.
