The Korean Cultural Center in Hungary is delighted to present a diverse selection of Korean literary and cultural programmes at the 31st Budapest International Book Festival, including book presentations, author talks, and an interactive tarot event.

2 October, 15:00 – Votisky Zsuzsa Room

Interactive Korean Tarot Presentation

Tarot expert László Pásztor introduces the origins and cultural significance of tarot, exploring the imagery and symbolism of European and Korean tarot decks in connection with Moon Hye-jeong’s The Tarot Reading Café which will be published in Hungarian at the end of September. The programme also includes a live tarot reading.

3 October, 11:00 – Szerb Antal Room

Han Kang: The White Book

A conversation about the Hungarian edition of Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang’s acclaimed novel The White Book, a lyrical meditation on memory, loss, grief and identity. The discussion features literature therapist Anna Ott and poet and psychologist Anna Terék, with a reading by actress Irma Major.

4 October, 13:00 – Szerb Antal Room

Healing Literature, a Book of Reconciliation

A presentation of ‘The Girl in the Phone Book’ by South Korean author Lee Su-yeon. The novel explores grief, guilt and unanswered questions through the story of an abandoned telephone booth that offers mourners a chance to hear the final thoughts of their deceased loved ones. The author will be in conversation with Hungarian author János Haász.

4 October, 15:00 – Szerb Antal Room

The Soul Laundry in Korean Literature

South Korean author Yun Jung-eun presents The Marigold Mind Laundry, a touching story about healing, forgiveness and second chances. The author will be in conversation with Hungarian author János Haász.

Both authors will also hold book signings at the stand of Európa Publishing (C20) on 4 October: Lee Soo-yeon at 14:00, and Yoon Jung-eun at 16:00.
