The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil (KCCB), together with the National Gugak Center, presents “K-Pop Meets Traditional Korean Music” from Sept. 8 to Nov. 8 in São Paulo. The exhibition shows how traditional Korean beliefs, artistic culture and folk arts continue in contemporary K-pop. Kim Sori, a researcher at the National Gugak Center and the exhibition’s researcher, said the exhibition aims to help visitors understand this continuity on today’s K-pop stages.

The exhibition is divided into Gut, Gat and Kkun, covering shamanic traditions, pungnyu and traditional popular arts. Visitors can see shamanic fans and bells, traditional costumes, masks from talchum, and instruments including the geomungo, gayageum, haegeum, daegeum, piri, janggu and sogo. The exhibition also features videos of artists such as Chudahye Chagis and ADG7, who reinterpret traditional music, as well as works and dances connected to traditional Korean arts. A traditional Korean music performance and practical workshops are also part of the program during the exhibition.
