Consul General Kim Sang-ho attended a series of flag-raising ceremonies, commemorative events, and cultural celebrations organized by Korean American communities and local governments in the United States to mark the 81st anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day.
Flag-raising ceremonies were held at Bergen County Plaza in New Jersey on August 11, Jersey City Hall on August 13, and Bowling Green Park in Manhattan’s Financial District on August 13. Local officials and members of the Korean American community gathered at each location to honor Korea’s independence and celebrate the raising of the Korean national flag, Taegeukgi.
On August 15, Liberation Day commemorative ceremonies took place in both New York and New Jersey. The New York ceremony was jointly organized by the Korean American Association of Greater New York, the New York Chapter of the Korea Liberation Association, the New York Chapter of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, and the Consulate General. In New Jersey, a separate ceremony was hosted by the Korean American Association of New Jersey, bringing community members together to reflect on the significance of Korea’s liberation.
In addition, Korea Heritage Day, organized by Korea Channel under the leadership of Han Sang-ki at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, provided an opportunity to showcase the rich diversity of Korean culture and the growing presence and contributions of the Korean American community to the broader American public.
