The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA) and Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute will present a special performance, “Tradition in Motion”, on Friday, May 19th, 2017 at 7:30p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles in the Ari Hall.
Participating artists include Hiza Yoo (Artistic Director Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute), and the Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute members (20 members including Julia Kim and Sarah Yang), the members of Chum Mani troupe (President Yenna Pikington), special guests Merelika Shamash, and Kenn Phillips, and they are all joining together for this special performance.
The program features the ‘Gayageum Ensemble’ (Featuring the Gayageum, A-jaeng, 25 stringed Gayageum, Yanggeum & Janggo), ‘Modeum Buk’ , ‘La Muerte Del Amor’, ‘Sword Dance’, ‘Yoo Hiza Ryu Jindo Buk Chum’, ‘Nanta’, ‘Choi Jong Sil Ryu Sogo Chum’, ‘Yoo Hiza Gayageum Sanjo’, 'Ohdoldok', and 'Nongak' and etc.
About Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute
Mrs. Yoo’s introduction to traditional Korean dance began as a child in Korea where she studied under the nationally renowned Korean dance instructor, Mrs. Sun Young Kang. Her formal education includes a BA in Music from Seoul National University, and a MA in Music Composition from California State University, Northridge. Currently, among her many activities, she is the Director of Hiza Yoo’s Korean Music & Dance Institute, and the Music Director of World Rhythms, a performing folk dance and music troupe. In 2011, she released an album of her own compositions of Gayageum, a Korean string instrument.
*This performance is presented as a part of the Korean Cultural Center’s 2017 ARI PROJECT Season 4: Performing arts series, which features a rich program of various performing arts programs including Korean traditional music and dance, modern fusion world music, Jazz, royal court tea ceremonies, puppet shows as well as theater.
