At the fifth workshop, Pansori master Kim, Sooyeon (Korean National Intangible Cultural Property No. 5 Title Semi-Holder) & master Park, Soo-Kwan (Founder of the Korea Eastern Folk Song Conservatory) will teach Heung-Taryeong, Dongbu Minyo.

Heung-Taryeong
There were two different versions of Namdo popular folk song Heung-Taryeong in the early 20th century : old and new ones. The former, which is found still fewer than the latter in the recordings and the music books, is simpler in terms of tune and melody and is faster in tempo.

Dongbu Minyo
Dongbu Minyo, the traditional folk songs that have been sung in the eastern part of Korea such as Hamgyeong, Gangwon, and Gyeongsang Provinces, are magnanimous, yet are the best at reflecting common people’s joys and sorrows. The songs from these regions have similar musical characteristics and Menaritori, a unique musical scale. Menaritori is the traditional musical term that refers to the musical scale of the traditional folk songs or shamanic songs from the provinces and has a very mournful singing style.
