▶Synopsis

Film critic Tony Rayns delves deep into the world of Korea's most controversial film directors Jang Sun-woo.  The documentary neatly dissects each of Jang Sun-woo's films from his first feature Seoul Jesus to the two films in production at the time of filming.  Rayns interviews key people involved with each of the films as well the ordinary Korean on the street that have been shocked/excited/offended or touched by the work.  Divided into chapters the documentary covers everything from Jang Sun-woo's life before film, nihilism, the Korean social attitudes and even his hair style.  The Jang Sun-woo Variations is a fascinating film for anyone interested in Korean cinema or cinema in general.
