KCCLA 30th Anniversary Gala Performance Series 7
Experience B. Brecht's play "The Good Person of Szechwan"
in the style of Pansori,
a unique form of Korean traditional music drama
The Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles (KCCLA) and The Korea Foundation’s Los Angeles Office presented a special musical tale with Korean and Western dramatic elements, "Pansori Brecht: Sacheon-Ga" at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s ‘A Good Woman of Szechuan,’ "Pansori Brecht: Sacheon-Ga" is a contemporary form of Pansori, a traditional Korean theatrical form of expression and a World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. This unique piece was created by ‘Project ZA,’ a performance group that consists of promising artists in Korea from various fields of arts: traditional Korean music, pop music, theatre and contemporary dance.
By translating Brecht's world into contemporary times, she not only highlights the theme of this epic drama, but makes the mood even more satirical and humorous. She already won much acclaim from professional theatre experts in Europe and received the "Best Actress Award" at the International Theater Festival KONTAKT 2010 in Poland. Invited by the Chicago World Music Festival 2010 in September 23~25 prior to the LA performance, "Pansori Brecht: Sacheon-Ga" began to draw keen attention regarding whether it will also gain critical acclaim in the United States.
