The 1st FCT-UBEB Taekwondo Competition was held at the School Hall of the Model Senior Secondary School, Maitama on November 29th 2018. The essence of the taekwondo Competition is to expose the pupils to the Olympic style competition, strengthen their confidence foster a good relationship between Nigeria and Korea through sports It is also a platform for grassroots taekwondo development and an avenue for talent hunt.
The event was graced by Deputy Director Creative Arts and taekwondo Coordinator, Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education, Mrs Irene Okafor, Mrs Ringwan, Head Teacher Model Primary School Maitama, Mrs. Rebecca Who represented the Head Taeach Wuse V Zone 1 Primary School Abuja.
About 180 students from the four participating schools and spectators were present during the championship. L.E.A. Primary School Wuse II Zone 3 emerged the winning school by winning 5 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 bronze the runner up is L.E.A. Primary School Wuse V Zone 1 with 4 Gold, 6 Silver and 7 Bronze while the third place was taken by Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama who won 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. The fourth position goes to Model Primary School Maitama with 1 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze medals.
Destiny Chukwukere of L.E.A. Primary School Wuse II Zone 3, won Gold in 3 events; -43kg Kyorugi, Individual poomsae and Team Poomsae respectively. Also Kathrine Ohajuba of Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama won 2 Gold medals in +48kg kyorugi and in individual poomsae both in female category. Medals, Certificates and Gifts were presented to the winners.
