Update of the Korean Collection Database(Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities)
[March 28] Reception for Completion of the Korea Database Project at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities
On March 28, Ambassador Lee Jeong-kyu attended a reception celebrating the completion of the Korea Database Project, hosted by the Museum of the Far Eastern Antiquities, one of the branches of the National Museums of World Culture in Sweden.
The Korea Database Project is basically about updating the database of the Museum’s Korean collection(including the objects in the Korean Gallery) which is composed of 543 objects. Main improvements made by the Project include wider information on objects, more photographs added to objects, 3D imaging for a few selected objects, and greater language accessibility by adding Korean and English to Swedish.
Ambassador Lee, through his congratulatory remarks, appreciated the fruitful cooperation of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, and emphasized the importance and the future improvement of the project, saying that “the newly updated Korean collection database at this Museum would mark a special landmark in the history of cultural exchange between Sweden and Korea, as this new database is much more mature and comprehensive in its content and provides greater accessibility in terms of languages, in particular, by adding Korean and English in addition to Swedish. Currently, the collection is relatively small in size and largely limited to ceramics, which I believe could be improved gradually in the future.”
Noting that the Korea Database Project could serve as a wonderful example of collaboration between Sweden and Korea, Ambassador Lee also wished for further and enhanced cooperation between the two most innovative countries as listed on the Bloomberg 2018 Innovation Index.
The Korea Database Project was based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2016 between the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sweden, and completed in January 2018.
