Korea Festival 2010 returns by popular demand
Two-month long celebration of Korean Culture and Arts in Singapore
Background:
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Singapore today announced the launch of “Korea Festival 2010”. From October to November, ten major artistic, cultural and sporting events featuring the best of Korean art, photography, film, music, martial arts and cuisine will take place all over Singapore.
The Annual Korea Festivals are a vital part of the Embassy's efforts to promote cross-cultural understanding between Singapore and Korea. Since the inaugural edition in 2008, the previous Festivals enjoyed resounding success, paving the way for the Korea Festival to return for a third year.
Compared to the two previous events, the programming this year reflects a forward-looking philosophy, giving more focus to works at the frontier of Korean contemporary society. This year’s Festival also has a collaborative emphasis so as to bring Korea closer to Singaporeans. Several events are presented in partnership with Singapore institutions such as the Arts House, the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, the National Museum of Singapore, NTUC FairPrice, Singapore Taekwondo Federation, and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Korea Festival 2010 will be launched officially on October 13th at the Korean National Day Reception at the Arts House.

Festival Highlights:
Spotlight on Contemporary Visual Arts
Profound and provocative works of fine arts and photography will take centre stage at this year’s festival. Three specially-selected visual arts exhibitions - Fantastic Ordinary, Human Faces, and Dis/placement:6 - will help to widen Singaporeans' understanding and appreciation of the richness of artistic innovation in Korea.
Action, Passion and Drama
Audience excitement will run high at Korea Festival 2010 with a line up of high-powered events: The Korean Tigers, one of the world’s top Taekwondo demonstration teams, will blend movements from jazz, acrobatics and street dance with more traditional Taekwondo techniques for an exhilarating performance; the Korean Pop Night Concert, the keystone event of this segment of the Festival, will feature some of the hottest K-pop sensations and is expected to open to a full house; and, reflecting its theme “Men of Action”, the Korean Film Festival will send pulses racing with films ranging from action thriller to period fantasy.
Tastes of Korea
In addition to the sampling of Korean cuisine served up at the Korean National Day Reception, a series of Korean food product fairs will be launched at all NTUC FairPrice supermarkets from mid-November onwards, bringing the authentic flavors of Korea to Singaporean kitchen.
Philanthropic Focus
Korea Festival 2010 has a focus on the spirit of sharing and giving with charity events such as “Beautiful Mind Beautiful Music” Concert and the Charity Golf and Gala Dinner, proceeds from which will benefit charities in Singapore, including the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Fund for needy patients.
