Events at KCCs abroad

On March 1st, the Korean Cultural Center New York held a memorial event with a special exhibition opening and performance to celebrate 100th Anniversary of the March 1st Korean Independence Movement and the Establishment of the Korean Provisional Government. Renowned artist John Pai, who comes from a family of independence activists, was also at the event as our honored guest.

At noon on March 1st, 1919, the Declaration of Korean Independence was shouted across the Korean peninsula, and Koreans all over the world united as one in peaceful demonstrations. This series of powerful movements acted as a catalyst for the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government, laying the foundation for the Republic of Korea that is today.

This year is made all the more meaningful as the New York State Senate and Assembly have adopted a resolution to commemorate the centennial of the March First Movement and the activist Yu Gwan-Sun.

The next 100 years is now beginning, and I hope that we can bring in a new era of peace and freedom together.

Please join us in March and April for special events including an exhibition, performance, film screening, and educational programs that honors the remembrance of a significant period of Korean history.
