A six-day trip through the fascinating Republic of Korea. From May 19 to 24, Korea Week will be held for the first time in Turin, a week of free shows and events - from cooking lessons to traditional music and dance shows, from taekwondo to cinema - which will accompany Turin and not the discovery of one of the most fascinating countries of the Far East: the Republic of Korea.
The event, promoted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Institute, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Milan, the Municipality of Turin and the Turin Foundation for Culture, presents a full calendar of free events.
"We have now reached the seventh edition of Korea Week, which saw the participation of over 12 thousand people throughout Italy - comments Choong Suk Oh, director of the Korean Cultural Institute - a success and a stimulus at the same time to present our country. Through events and exhibitions we do not just want to make Korean culture known, but also to create a place of sharing and harmony with Italian culture ".
One of the most curious and anticipated events of the week is certainly the ceremony of Baru-gongyang, the sacred ritual with which we eat with gratitude in Buddhist temples: eating is not just eating, but a way of reflecting on the origin of food and being thankful to nature and the people who make the products. The famous Buddhist chef and nun Jeong Kwan, one of the most important exponents of the tradition, will guide the participants in the experience of this philosophy from which a "Zen" vegetarian cuisine was born.
Tuesday 21 May at 12.00 (for about 2 hours, with a contribution of 25.00 euros) at the MAO Museum of Oriental Art it will be possible to participate in lessons and demonstrations by the chef - for 20 participants previously registered online (send an email to info@culturacorea.it) - which will be preceded on Monday from 12.00 to 18.00 (with extraordinary opening of the Conference Room of the MAO Museum of Oriental Art for the occasion) from small workshops to make lotus flowers on paper (one of the most iconic symbols of Buddhism) and prints of engraving Buddhist symbols.

"K-Pop - continues Choong Suk Oh - is a true global phenomenon, so that one of the most important groups, BTS, have been chosen by Time Magazine as Next Generation Leaders 2018". At the Teatro Piccolo Valdocco all K-Pop music lovers will be able to watch 10 preselected K-Pop Cover Dance groups from all over Italy, which will recreate the choreographies of the most popular K-Pop Idol of the moment. Before the contest from 1.00 pm it will also be possible to try out the traditional Korean Hanbok clothes and learn about the world of Korean cosmetics and have the opportunity to buy some products.

To celebrate 100 years of Korean cinema at the Cinema Massimo, on May 20 and 22, two important Korean films will be screened: Burning (May 20 at 20.30) and Train to Busan (May 22 at 20.30).
Based on a story by Haruki Murakami, Burning is a film that fascinates, shakes and excites for the style with which it is shot. What is being staged is a profound moral narrative, which starts from three characters to extend and expand reflection on South Korea, human relations and social differentiations.

Train to Busan is a film that works on multiple levels: on one of pure entertainment, like horror with the world of men in danger in the face of the spread of the undead plague; or on that, more satisfying and profound, as a result of a sociological reflection on Korea.
