Webtoon, a word coined by combining ‘web’ and ‘cartoon’ (cartoon), is a new form of digital cardboard popular in Korea.
When you scroll down the screen, the webtoon deal with various interesting topics and create an interactive group of readers through direct communication with your audience. Launched in the early 2000s as free webtoon services, today they have evolved in both forms of paid and free platforms, also thanks to the vast dissemination of smartphones and other mobile devices.
WHAT IS THE WEBTOON
The Webtoon is a form of digital cardboard presented in Korea. The word combines "World Wide Web" and "Cartoon" and indicates the digital cartoon that applies the function of vertical scrolling that the web browser and mouse wheel possess. It was brought to the world in 2003 by a series of experimental authors, following the digitalization of the media, the dissemination of the Internet and the activation of mobile payment services.
Unlike the American Comic Book, the Webtoon has the characteristic of being published regularly by a single author and, unlike the Japanese manga, it is colored. In particular, as the Japanese manga develops its S-shaped scenes (from right to left), the Korean Webtoon develops them in the shape of a Z (from left to right).
At the current state in Korea the Webtoon is followed by over 10 million people, 4000 authors are active on 40 platforms and every week over 5000 new episodes are uploaded. Currently the Webtoon is distributed worldwide in countries such as the USA, Canada, Japan, China, France and others, in the local language and works published by local authors are also on the rise. You can see the remarkable increase in the production and distribution of products that characterize the characters, books, movies, dramas and video games taken from the Webtoon. By now we can say that the Webtoon is a real form of creation and consumption that makes the whole world participate.

Each episode focuses on a particular dish and in the meantime the story of the characters takes place. Starting from everyday ingredients such as tofu or spinach, you get to the real Korean like Kimchi Jigae (kimchi soup) or Ssambap (vegetable that wraps rice and other side dishes), and ends with a nice Milk Fruits Pudding (pudding milk with fruit in syrup). In this way the story that tells habitual episodes takes place in a natural way focusing on food.
