Opera "Pagliacci", the beauty of the verist opera
2019 marks the centenary of the death of the realist opera master Ruggero Leoncavallo. "Pagliacci", one of his most beloved masterpieces, is a short work in two acts based on real events. The opera is often staged on the same day with "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Mascagni or "Il Tabarro" by Puccini. The plot is about Canio, the manager of a traveling theater, and Nedda, his young wife who betrays him with Silvio, a local farmer. The story is centered on the honor crime of which Canio is caught between fiction and harsh reality, all contrasted with lyrical and harmonious music.

On the centenary of the death of Leoncavallo, the Association of Korean Musicians in Italy staged "Pagliacci" with talented singers and a minimal screenplay at the Cultural Day of the Korean Cultural Institute.
