찰스 윤 뉴욕한인회장님, 김민선 전임회장님, 김영덕 이사장님,

이경로 의장님을 비롯하여 역대 회장님, 전현직 이사진 여러분,

존경하는 동포 여러분, 내외 귀빈 여러분,

오늘 “뉴욕한인회” 창립 59주년을 축하하는 경사스러운 날에 뵙게 되어 정말 기쁘고, 반갑습니다. 59년 전인 지난 1960년 오늘, 뜻을 함께 하는 40여명의 한인 동포들께서 모여, 창립총회를 개최한 이래, “뉴욕한인회”는 동포사회와 함께 눈부신 성장을 이룩했습니다. 지난 60여년의 세월동안 “뉴욕한인회”가 거쳐 온 발자취는 바로 우리 동포들께서 태평양 넘어 이곳에서 “어메리칸 드림”을 성취해오신 당당하고, 자랑스러운 역사입니다.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies, and Gentlemen, Good evening!

It is a great pleasure to see you all today on the occasion of the 59th Anniversary of KAAGNY.

Over the past 59 years since its establishment in 1960, KAAGNY has achieved remarkable development and transformation in tandem with the incredible growth of the Korean-American community in this region of greater New York. KAAGNY’s journey is yet another inspiring and proud history of Korean-Americans achieving their American dreams in this great country of opportunity and hope.

존경하는 동포 여러분,

세계의 수도라고 불리우는 이 곳 뉴욕은 다양한 민족들이 오늘 이 순간, 이 시각에도 치열한 경쟁을 벌이고 있는 생생한 삶의 현장입니다. 후발 이민그룹으로서 갖은 역경에도 불구하고, 한인 동포사회가 모범적인 이민사회로 우뚝 설 수 있게 된 것은 동포 여러분 한 분 한 분께서 흘리신 땀과 각고의 노력 덕분에 이루어낸 소중한 결실일 뿐만 아니라, “뉴욕한인회”가 든든한 버팀목으로서의 역할도 훌륭하게 수행해 왔기 때문입니다.

“뉴욕한인회” 역대 회장님을 비롯하여 전현직 이사진 여러분, 그리고 존경하는 동포 여러분 한 분 한 분께 이 자리를 빌어 깊은 경의를 표합니다. 그간의 노고에 대해 치하와 감사의 큰 박수 드립니다.

존경하는 동포 여러분, 내외 귀빈 여러분,

올해는 ‘3.1 운동 100주년’과 ‘임시정부 수립 100주년’을 맞는 뜻깊은 한해입니다. “뉴욕한인회”는 미연방의회에서 “임시정부 100주년 경축 및 한미동맹 강화 결의안”을 발의하는 한편, 뉴욕 주의회에서 “3.1 운동 100주년 기념 결의안”이 만장일치로 채택되도록 함으로써, 한미 양국간 우호협력 관계가 더욱 돈독해지도록 가교로서의 역할도 훌륭하게 수행하셨습니다. “뉴욕한인회”의 훌륭한 역할과 이를 위해 긴밀하게 협조해주신 연방 의회의원 및 뉴욕 주의회 의원님들께 감사 드립니다. (의미있는 기념행사가 되도록 특히 애써주셨던 김민선 전임회장님께 감사 드립니다.)

As you know, this year marks the Centennial Anniversary of the March First Independence Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai in 1919.

Since January, KAAGNY has worked closely with outstanding political leaders in the US Congress and the New York State Legislature, [They include Congressman Tom Suozzi, Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, State Senator John Liu, Assemblyman Ron Kim, and Assemblyman Edward Braunstein,] who are here with us today.

Thanks to their close collaboration, a resolution celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Provisional Government of Korea and Strengthening the Korea-US alliance was introduced in the US Congress. At the New York State Legislature, a resolution celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the March First Independence Movement was adopted unanimously.

By doing this, KAAGNY, as a valuable bridge between our two countries, has played yet another important role in further strengthening the U.S.-Korea partnership. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and appreciate both KAAGNY’s beautiful role and the wonderful cooperation and support from the friends of the Korean-American community, especially those political leaders here with us today. (Let us give them a special round of applause!)

존경하는 동포 여러분, 내외 귀빈 여러분,

우리 한인 동포사회는 이민 1세대에서 1.5세대, 2세대, 차세대로 이어지는 시대적, 세대적인 전환기에 직면해있습니다. 이러한 중차대한 시기에 탁월한 역량과 비전과 인품을 두루 겸비하신 챨스 윤 회장님께서 신임회장의 중책을 맡으셔서 마음이 든든합니다.

챨스 윤 회장님께서 이민 1세대의 헌신적인 노고와 소중한 기여를 늘 기억하시면서, 신임 이사진과 차세대와 함께 동포사회의 백년대계를 힘차게 열어나가시기를 기원합니다. 오늘 창립 59주년을 맞아, 응원의 큰 박수 드립니다.

챨스 윤 회장님의 현명한 리더쉽 하에 “뉴욕 한인회”가 동포사회의 구심점으로서 앞으로 힘차게 전진해 나갈 때, 저희 총영사관도 함께 호흡하면서 뛰겠다는 말씀을 드립니다.
