39th NYC Korean Parade and K-Town Street Festival

October 5, 2019

Good afternoon, everyone! What a great day of celebration and festivities!

The Korean Parade has now become a wonderful part of the New York tradition. I would like to thank and congratulate the hosts, KAAGNY and Korea Times, for organizing this fantastic Parade and street festival, again this year.

The parade is even more special and meaningful this year, as we celebrate the centennial of the March First Independence Movement, a national uprising inspired by none other than President Woodrow Wilson’s principle of self-determination. That same year, in 1919, the Korean Provisional Government was established in Shanghai.

A century later, today, Korea has become a vibrant democracy and a global economic powerhouse. Such an amazing achievement was possible thanks to the support from our dear American friends: of course, our wonderful elected officials here with us on this stage. With your continued support, the rock-solid US-Korea alliance will remain the linchpin of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and beyond. (Thank you so much!)

Last but certainly not least, I have to recognize and appreciate hardworking and caring Korean-Americans. As you know, they not only make meaningful contributions to their local communities but also serve as a beautiful and natural bridge between the United States of America and Korea.

This event is intended to further promote mutual understanding, friendship, and cultural diversity in this great City of New York. Thus, thank you all for joining us, and please enjoy the festivities.
