Two Person Show: micro-cosm
March 29, 2011
The Korean Cultural Service New York will present the art exhibition titled “micro-cosm.” This is the first show from the ‘Call for Artists 2011’ featuring two emerging Korean artists, Yun-woo Choi and Ankabuta. This exhibition is based on the notion of comparisons and each artist expresses their individual identities with different scales of space portrayed through art. The title Micro-cosm comes from the words “micro”, a unit used to describe extremely small objects, and “cosmo”, a combining form of universe.
One gigantic installation by Yun-woo Choi fills half the gallery space which evokes thoughts of the universe. The artist believes that his role as an artist is to reveal physical and conceptually hidden dimensions. He questions what is real and whether people live in the same dimension; even if they all possess and perceive different thoughts about the same situation currently underway. To understand theoretical physics in more detail, the artist read and was influenced by The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos written by Dr. Brian Green. Yun-woo Choi studied Sculpture at Hong-Ik University where he received his MFA.
Ankabuta lives and is actively working in Germany and her works consist of micro-mini size objects. Her direction in art comes from questioning the existence of God after seeing people suffer and experience loss from a natural disaster. Her artwork titled Alptraum, from her Meine Welt, My World Series is a highlight piece from her collection and will be on display. She received her BFA from Chung-Ang University in Korea.
The opening reception for this exhibition will be on March 29th from 6PM – 8PM. The exhibition will be on display at the gallery space within the Korean Cultural Service NY located at 460 Park Avenue, 6th Floor, and the exhibition will carry through May 4th.
This exhibition is open to the public and is being presented as part of Asian Contemporary Art Week 2011.
