Events at KCCs abroad

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean war, Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria posted various videos and link online to commemorate the event. The videos included a documentary on the history of Korean war among others.

ABOUT THE KOREAN WAR:

The Korean war began on June 25, 1950, when the North Korean People’s Army launched a surprise invasion of South Korea. It was completely unprecedented in world history and a catastrophe that left enduring scars on the Korean people. On July 27, 1953, representatives of the UN forces and the communist forces signed the ceasefire agreement. However, the ceasefire agreement only brought hostile actions to a halt, which means that the war was on a halt, but technically was not over.

By the time the war was halted, 80% of the entire Korean Peninsula had been laid to waste and millions of civilians and military personnel had died. No one believed that the country could ever recover from the war, even after a century, but the Korean people rose up from the ashes of the war and pulled off the Miracle of the Han River. This 70th anniversary is commemorated with the motto “From 70 years of defense to peace and to the future”.
