Starting from June 29 to July 1, 2011, the Korean Cultural Service NY will hold its Second Three Day Korean Culture summer camp for children ages six through eight to playfully learn about Korean culture through fun drama activities. The program in its second year running is geared toward 1.5 generation Korean Americans, 2nd generation Korean Americans, or any child, who has been previously exposed to Korean culture to learn more about it through a child-friendly and interactive environment.

Everyday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, children will interact with Korean culture through entertaining and educative dramas around this year’s theme which is “The Year of the Rabbit: Korean Tales of Rabbits.” Three specific tales, which are Tales of Zodiac Signs, Rabbit, rabbit’s Liver, and Rabbits in the Moon will be introduced to the children during the three day camp. Through drama activities such as theater games, mask-making, and shadow-puppet play, student swill learn the twelve Korean zodiac signs and their assigned animals. They will be able to naturally experience and understand Korean culture and language in creative and fun ways.

Instructors for this program are Ms. Eunju Na (a drama education specialist, who graduated from Ohio State University and is currently a Korean Language Lecturer at NYU) and Mr. Chong-Ho Kim (a teaching artist a part of the Theatre for Young Audiences play series, who graduated from Texas University as a drama major and is associated with the University of Vermont’s Flynn Performing Arts Center).
