About the Artist
With the inseparable influence of her Asian heritage and the mind of habitual tourist, Yaloo creates technically rich, visually extravagant works that deal with the images of contemporary culture. Yaloo embraces experimentation in her video installations, which encompass single channel video, media façades, projection mapping sculptures, digital textiles, and virtual reality applications. Her works lead audiences to an immersive digital experience reminiscent of a theme park. She has participated in numerous international artist residencies, specializing in creating media art in unique situations and circumstances. Through the process of developing large-scale cross-media projects in Asia and America, Yaloo’s one-of-a-kind visual treatment of normally mundane imagery and her experimental use of new technology have synergized with local communities and non-art industry professionals, inspiring friendly conversations on a range of important contemporary issues.
Yaloo (full name: Ji Yeon Lim) received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago focusing on video installation. She is a fellowship recipient from the Asia Cultural Center (Korea), Headlands Art Center (United States), Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Japan), La Bande Vidéo (Canada), Western Front Society (Canada), Bemis Studio Art Center (United States), and Vermont Studio Art Center (United States).
