The New York Asian Film Festival, North America's leading festival of popular Asian cinema,  is celebrating its 10th year anniversary at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater from July 1st to July 14th. This year, the New York Asian Film Festival will collaborate with Korean Cultural Service NY and present “Sea of Revenge: New Korean Thrillers” and “Mise-en-scène Short Film Series” for New Yorkers to sample the epic and innovative spirits of Korean thrillers and short films.


11 selected Korean blockbuster thrillers such as The Unjust, Bedeviled, The Man from Nowhere, The Yellow Sea, and others will be presented throughout the first two weeks of July. On July 14th, leading Korean directors such as The Yellow Sea’s Hong-Jin Na, The Unjust’s Seung-Wan Ryoo, Troubleshooter’s Hyeok-Jae Kwon, and Battlefield Heroes’ Joon-Ik Lee will join the festival here in New York.

After the closing ceremony reception, the New York Asian Film Festival’s last movie, The Yellow Sea will start its screening at 9 pm. The Yellow Sea, (Un Certain regard) Cannes 2011 Film Festival’s pick, has received positive attention and praise for making its mark in the thriller genre.

 

In conjunction with the New York Asian Film Festival, the Korean Cultural Service NY will also present 11 award winning contemporary short films from the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. The 11 selected films from the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, including awarded films such as  Kim Hyun-Chul’s  The Key  and Yoo Dae-Ul’s The Brass Quintet,. On  July 13th, there will be   Q&A session with the director Yoon Hye Ryum after the screening of Familyship.

 

Woo Sung Lee, Director of Korean Cultural Service NY who has prepared the “Sea of Revenge: New Korean Thrillers” and “Mise-en-scène Short Film Series” said "I hope New Yorkers will enjoy the eccentric Korean Thriller Movies and short films produced by energetic young Korean."
