[K-Food Series] The Classic Korean Dessert, Maejakgwa
The Korean Cultural Centre Canada is pleased to present the third episode of "K-Food Series".
Korean desserts are not as widely known as Korean food in general. However, Korean desserts are known for their beautiful colors, taste, and texture that capture the palates of all preferences, young and old.
The term “maejakgwa” is derived from the shape, which is said to resemble a sparrow (pronounced “jak” in Korean) perched on an apricot tree (pronounced “mae” in Korean).
To make this cookie, simply cut thinly rolled flour dough into small pieces to make ribbon shapes, and deep-fry. It is a sweet traditional Korean cookie coated with honey and rice syrup.
