Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia will hold an online Korean Book Club on 12 November 6pm AEDT in partnership with the State Library of NSW.

The November book club will discuss Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982,the South Korean novel that has got the literary world talking.

The life story of one young woman born at the end of the twentieth century raises questions about endemic misogyny and institutional oppression that are relevant to us all. Author Cho Nam-Joo drew partly on her own experience as a woman who quit her job to stay at home after giving birth to a child. Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is her third novel. It has had a profound impact on gender inequality and discrimination in Korean society and has been translated into 18 languages. In 2019 Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 was made into a feature film.

Join Senior Lecturer in Gender and Cultural Studies, Dr Jane Park and Michaela Kalowski as they discuss the issues and ideas around gender, culture and common experience explored in Cho Nam-Joo's best selling novel.

Dr Park will also be reading a letter from Cho Nam-Joo addressed specifically to her Australian audience.

Register early to win one of 15 copies of Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982.
