Explore Bong Joon Ho's career and his journey towards Oscar glory with Korean cinema experts.

 

Part of the London Korean Film Festival, film critic Anton Bitel and professor Steve Choe will give a talk on LKFF's Bong Joon Ho Shorts strand (Influenza &Incoherence).

Panelists will delve into the Bong Joon Ho's early career, tracing his journey towards Oscar glory. They will also explore his role within Korean cinema and the impact Parasite has had at home and abroad.

Following the talk, we will open the floor to questions from the audience. Guests will be emailed a password for ZOOM, which will allow exclusive access to a virtual webinar.

Anton Bitel

Anton Bitel is a freelance film critic and East Asian cinema specialist. He is an occasional tutor in Ancient Greek and Latin at the University of Oxford. He has been a member of the Online Film Critics Society since 2007, and of the London Film Critics’ Circle since 2009. He also programmes LKFF's Cinema Now strand. Twitter: @AntBit.


Steve Choe

Steve Choe is Associate Professor of Critical Studies in the School of Cinema at San Francisco State University. His areas of research and teaching include film and media theory, phenomenology, theories of technology, and critical philosophies of violence. He is the author of Afterlives: Allegories of Film and Mortality in Early Weimar Germany (2014), Sovereign Violence: Ethics and South Korean Cinema in the New Millennium (2016), and is a co-editor of Beyond Imperial Aesthetics: Theories of Art and Politics in East Asia (2019).
