 - First place winner awarded one round trip airfare to participate in Korea’s

   K-POP Contest held in November

Would KPOP’s success in Paris continue in New York? The Korean Cultural Service NY (KCSNY director Woo Sung Lee) in collaboration with the English based, Korean pop culture news website allkpop.com (director John Noh) will host the New York K-POP Contest on August 16th, 2011 at the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park for the Second Annual “Korea Day.” The New York K-POP Contest will be an opportunity for US residents to showcase their skills in singing, dancing, and/or singing and dancing to K-POP songs of their choosing.

From July 7th 2011 to July 21th 2011, nearly a hundred contestants sent KCSNY powerful performance clips through the preliminary application process. The submitted clips were all filled with energy and passion making it very difficult for the KCSNY to select only 8 teams to qualify for the final open concert on August 16th. The selected 8 teams are composed of all American residents—with a majority being non Koreans—who will show New York what K-POP is all about on “Korea Day” at the Namburg Bandshell in Central Park (btwn 66th and 72nd street). First place contest winner(s) will be awarded one round trip airfare to Korea to be eligible to participate in the Korean International K-POP contest held this coming November while second and third place winners will collectively receive desirable prizes.

Director Woo Sung Lee of the KCS NY expresses that “the New York K-POP contest is to bring the rising popularity and trend of K-POP in South Asia, Europe, and other international
countries back to New York” and projects that “the contest’s focus on US residents to showcase K-POP skills will be an excellent means to raise awareness about K-POP for Americans.”
