The Masked Singer, the Fall TV ratings hit in Belgium
This fall's TV ratings hit comes from South Korea. Week after week, VTM, a major broadcast channel in Belgium, records record figures with "The Masked Singer" and thus provided the channel with the best viewing figures of the last five years.
The masked singer, a concept conceived in Korea, was acquired by VTM after it made a smooth transition to and was a great success in the US and UK markets.
This concept that offers entertainment for the whole family is praised by many. It is relatively simple: a mix of celebrities have to sing while in a costume and after each episode a candidate has to leave.
As a viewer you have no influence on the course of the program since you cannot vote for or keep any candidate in the program. It is pre-recorded and only the jury gets to decide which candidate stays in the program. However it is still possible to participate in the program by guessing who is behind the masks and try to recognize them by their voice. Gradually tips are also given about the identity of the singers. The viewers get a reveal every week, since the candidate with the fewest votes has to leave the game. However they can only do so after removing his or her mask and revealing their identity, which satisfies viewers curiosity and makes them excited to see whether their guess was right or not.
