Eun-Me AHN's 'North Korea Dance'

The eccentric South Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn had ignited the 2014 edition of the festival PAYS DE DANCES with 'Dancing Grandmothers'!

Exclusively in Belgium, she returns with her last piece bouncing on the recent resumption of dialogue between the two Koreas. Unable to go to the North, the artist collected dance videos available and decoded, the evolution of an art subject to a dictatorial regime. Extracting the essence of military parades, fan dances, manly gestures, virtuoso acrobatics, traditional dances and folk dances, she reclaims the codes through her joyful, ironic and poppy art. The ten performers, including herself, alternate between minimalist paintings and colorful frescoes, the delicacy of the gayageum (a traditional Korean instrument) and exhilarating trance through electronic bass.
