The Korean Cultural Center held an online screening of Korean movies through the website of the Korean Cultural Center from 4pm on May 29th (Fri) to 4pm on May 30th (Sat), 2020 as part of the'Day with Korean Culture' project.

As the spread of Corona 19 in the host country made it impossible to hold movie screenings in the Cultural Center, a free online screening was held for members of the Cultural Center, which was the first online movie screening event to replace the existing offline movie screenings.

The film that was screened on this day was <Taxi Driver> (Italian subtitle, director Jang Hoon, starring Song Kang Ho) related to the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.

A total of 211 people were connected to the online screening held for 24 hours to watch the movie. (144 visitors on Friday, 67 visitors on Saturday)

The number of new subscribers to the Cultural Center newsletter increased by 145.

As a result of the online screening of Korean movies, Roman citizens mainly attended the movie screenings previously held at the Cultural Center, but this time, people from all over the country such as Venice, Milan, Naples, and Turin had the effect of accessing and enjoying Korean movies.

In addition, at the time of screening in the Cultural Center, only up to 100 people were allowed to watch, but at this online movie viewing event, more than 200 people watched it, which was an opportunity to expand the base of Korean movies.

While using online, it was promoted that it was not a full disclosure method such as YouTube or SNS, but a limited disclosure method for members of the Cultural Center's newsletter. As a result, registration of members of the Cultural Center increased by 145 in one week. (Password for watching movies is provided to newsletter members only)

Saverio Esposito (Il Sole 24 ore) reporter said, “I got to know some of the modern history of Korea that I didn't know. It was my first time seeing a movie with subtitles, but it was a beautiful movie.”

Anna France Forma said “Thank you for allowing me to watch Korean movies online. “Taxi Driver” is a beautiful and educational movie. Through this film, I learned a little about the modern Korean history. It was an opportunity to become interested in Korean history.”

François Morlupi said “I am so grateful that you have given me this opportunity. I would like to participate in all the Korean movie online screenings that will be held in the future.”
