Korean court embroidery will be unfolded at the National Palace Museum of Korea. Running until September 1, the exhibition titled “Artistic Court Embroidery” will highlight court embroidery, the essence of Joseon Dynasty’s embroidery history, and the culture that was embedded in its court life.
The 90 works on display include clothes, decorations, paintings, and calligraphic works produced in the Joseon (1392-1910) court. The clothes include yongbo, a type of dragon-shaped embroidery attached to the chest and back of costumes worn by kings and queens, and belts on the back of ceremonial dresses. There are also embroidered gifts made for royal weddings and grand gold-laced uniforms worn by princesses. For more information, call the museum at 02-3701-7632, 7635.
