The 92-year-old Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, RSB) will visit Korea for the first time in four years. It will perform in the Seoul Arts Center's main concert hall at 8 p.m. on March 13.
The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra dates back to the first hour of music broadcasting by Deutscher Rundfunk in October 1923. It is the first symphony orchestra founded by a public broadcaster in Germany. After World War II, it performed as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra for the first time on May 18, 1945.
It has performed three times in Korea, in November 2003, January 2009 and October 2011. Conductor Marek Janowski will lead the orchestra again as he did in past concerts. Janowski has led the orchestra since he was appointed music director in 2002. They will perform the overture from Weber's "Oberon," a Sibelius violin concerto and Brahms' Symphony No. 2.
