1. The 3rd ROK-Peru High-level Policy Consultation was held in Seoul on March 8 with MOFAT’s First Vice Minister Ahn Ho-young and his Peruvian counterpart Jose Beraun Aranibar as the heads of their respective delegations.
2. The two sides noted with appreciation the cooperative relations between their countries that have further tightened through the bilateral summit held annually in the last four consecutive years and the effectuation of the ROK-Peru FTA on August 1, 2011; and pledged to substantively deepen the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership forged in November 2008.
3. The two sides agreed to work toward tangible progress in key cooperation projects between their countries, such as Peru’s purchase of police patrol cars from the ROK and the formation of ROK-Peru joint fund for infrastructure development, which have lately been under discussion, in preparation for high-level exchanges in the future.
4. Vice Minister Ahn reminded the Peruvian delegates of the active social contributions to Peru made by ROK investors in the sectors of energy, resources, infrastructure and plants in Peru, and requested the country’s keen interest in and support for those companies. Vice Minister Beraun responded that the Peruvian government will extend as much support as possible to the ROK enterprises that are providing exemplary contribution to social development in Peru.
5. The two sides agreed to convene the ROK-Peru FTA Implementation Committee to review achievements since the effectuation of the FTA. Furthermore, they concurred to expand the scope of the cooperation between their countries to include more diverse fields, such as defense industry, science and technology.
6. The two delegations exchanged in-depth views on regional and global situations in the wake of the global financial crisis in 2008 and agreed to work more closely on the international stage on the basis of the common interests of the two countries.
7. The 3rd ROK-Peru High-level Policy Consultation, held after the bilateral summit, the Meeting of the Joint Economic Committee and the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in September, October, and November, respectively, last year, is seen to have served as a good opportunity to affirm the common commitment of the two countries to developing their relations.
