Korea, China and Japan agreed to expand
a logistics information network
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs held a workshop in Jeju from March 21 to 23, 2012, to expand the logistics information network between Korea, China and Japan and discussed the type of logistics information services and ways of expanding the service area.
At the workshop, the three countries agreed to settle the vessel entry and departure schedule information service, which has been on trial since last December, by connecting Korea’s SP-IDC(Shipping and Port Internet Data Center: web-based shipping and port logistics information center), China’s LOGINK and Japan’s COLINS (container logistics information center).
They also decided to consecutively expand the service area ranging from Busan, Ningbo, Zhoushan, Yokohama, Tokyo ports to Gwangyang, Incheon, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Tenjin, Gobe, Hakata, Simonosiki ports, etc.
The workshop was held in participation of 50 experts including representatives of the three countries’ government, research institutes, universities and companies, and they discussed ways of constant cooperation on NEAL-Net (Northeast Asia Logistics Information Service Network) operation and logistics information sharing.
The three main discussion agendas were 1) to increase service providing ports in each nation and share container movement information; 2) to plan joint research on sharing information about hazardous cargo; 3) to discuss share logistics statistics and 4) to establish a working-group to expand NEAL-Net service area into EU and ASEAN countries.
Also, ways of managing chassis and promotion plans for Korea-China multimodal vehicle transportation was discussed at the workshop as a follow-up measure to the Korea-China-Japan Ministerial Meeting on Logistics and Transportation.
In particular, Korea introduced its excellent logistics information system, which is operated in Trans Siberian Railway by using ‘Container Location Positioning Device’ based on satellite navigation system developed by Korea.
It is expected that it will make Korea’s information and communication technology play a leading role in expanding Korea-China-Japan logistics information service and establishing a wide area logistics location positioning information network for EU and ASEAN nations.
