The Seoul Metropolitan Government is conducting a variety of publicity campaigns designed to lure foreign visitors to Seoul in the final year of the 2010-2012 Visit Korea Year.
Available from ten places, the Free Delivery of Welcome Postcards service is extremely popular.
As a typical Visit Korea Year event, the Free Delivery of Welcome Postcards service will remain available until the end of the year. The service enables foreign visitors to send postcards overseas free of charge. Launched in the middle of 2011, the service sent 26,370 postcards of Seoul to a variety of countries between June and November 2011. Visitors from China and Southeast Asia, in particular, used the service the most.
This year the welcome postcards are being distributed in ten places, including the Seoul Global Culture and Tourism Center in Myeong-dong, Sarangchae at Cheongwadae, and Tourist Information Centers in various locations across the city. A special booth is scheduled for installation in Myeong-dong during the 2012 Seoul Summer Sale (June 29 ~ July 29) to provide the free postcard service.
Foreign tourists can choose one of seven picture postcards, write a messages and put the postcard in a red mailbox on site.
It’s as simple as that!
“Every month an online event takes place, and airline tickets and many other gifts are given away as prizes.”
Each month various online events are held to introduce the tourism resources of Seoul on the website of the 2010-2012 Visit Korea Year with Seoul (
http://welcome.visitseoul.net/eng/index.jsp ).
This month’s theme concerns the ‘Sejong Belt’ performances. Visit the website and give the right answers to the quiz questions, and you will be eligible to receive a variety of prizes including air tickets to and from Seoul and tickets to Sejong Belt performances.
On the website, the city of Seoul, in collaboration with the Sejong Belt and the 2010-2012 Visit Korea Committee, is conducting an all-year-round campaign while providing information about accommodation and performances in Seoul.
The city government will also carry out the ‘1+1 performance discount campaign’ this year. The campaign will offer - on a first-come, first-served basis - one additional free ticket to fifty foreign tourists who have bought tickets for performances in the Sejong Belt.
In collaboration with the 2010-2012 Visit Korea Committee, the city government will also offer one night’s free accommodation to foreign tourists who have stayed more than three nights in one of the hotels participating in the “One More Night” campaign.
“Delicious Seoul Story” SNS Auditions Publicize Attractiveness of Korean Dishes!
In the preliminary round of the Delicious SEOUL Story, You-Tube entries about the preparation of Korean dishes are evaluated. Teams which pass the online audition are then invited to Seoul for the final round of a cooking battle. The contest has attracted a great deal of interest from local audiences, too. Korea’s three main TV networks covered the audition on their news segments last year.
The first-round winners will be selected in July and August this year via an evaluation of the participants’ online presentations. Five or six teams will be invited to the Seoul Gourmet Tour around Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day) towards the end of September and to the final stage of the event.
The invited competitors will have an opportunity to tour famous Korean restaurants in Seoul to taste genuine Korean dishes. They will also learn how to make songpyeon (half-moon-shaped rice cake with sweet fillings), an essential dish at Chuseok feasts, and experience some of Korea’s major cultural heritages.
