Expo Pop Festival is sparking an unexpected and unintended “rivalry” between Wonder Girls and Girls’ Generation, one of the hottest Korean girl groups who conquered the K-pop industry.

There’s a subtle competition going on between the two groups, as Expo Pop Festival, a series of K-pop concerts featuring 70 or so Korean top singers, is set to stage Girls’ Generation and Wonder Girls on July 12th and 15th respectively.

Girls’ Generation has built up a loyal fan base both at home and abroad. They came out on top to Japanese most popular boy band Kat-Tun for the top spot on the Oricon chart, and set a new record over Boa, a Korean singer who placed 200th on Billboards’ chart, and landed on the 126th place. More recently, they have become the first K-pop stars featured on stamps. Girls’ Generation, with their strong fan base, is expected to draw enthusiastic response from the audience of all ages at Expo Pop Festival.

Wonder Girls have truly proven what a force they are in K-Pop with their new single “Like This.” They topped Billboard K-Pop chart with the song, and now are well on their way to success in the U.S. They are also hugely popular in the rest of the Americas and Asia, especially in Japan where they released official albums and were selected as a model for Japanese cosmetic commercial.

Wonder Girls made a solid comeback on the Korean music scene after a long absence due to their focus on the global stage. They got the top spot on Korean music chart for two weeks, and ranked first on major music charts of Korean web-based music providers, such as Melon, Mnet and Daum, for the month of June.

The two hottest names on the Korean music scene are now ready to command the stage and thrill the audience at Expo Pop Festival which is opened to people around the world.

Expo Pop Festival can be freely enjoyed by anyone with an admission pass to Yeosu Expo, and is set to stage K-pop concerts 50 times or so before the closing of the Expo.
