The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, Minister Jeong Eun Kyeong) announced that the 2025 International Symposium on Traditional Medicine will be held over two days, from Tuesday, September 9 to Wednesday, September 10, at Ferrum Hall, Ferrum Tower, in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The symposium, hosted by the MOHW and organized by the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (NIKOM, Acting Director Lee Hwa-dong), will be held both in-person and online.
Under the theme “Korean Medicine Meets Artificial Intelligence – Pioneering a New Future of the Traditional Medicine,” the symposium will bring together 18 experts from 10 countries—including Japan, China, and Taiwan—along with about 500 participants from Korean medicine organizations and the general public.
A special lecture will be delivered by Shin Soo-yong, Chief Research Officer at Kakao Healthcare, on the topic “To Make People Healthy with Technology.”
In addition, five thematic sessions organized by the NIKOM and other partners will be held.
The sessions will feature presentations and discussions on the following themes: Innovation Strategies Using AI and Big Data in Traditional Medicine; International Standards and Global Cooperation in Traditional Medicine; Expanding Traditional Medicine into Global Markets; International Health Care Cooperation and WHO’s Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034; and Strategic Approaches to Attracting International Patients for Traditional Medicine.
Jeong Young-hoon, Director General of Korean Medicine Policy, stated, “This symposium will provide a valuable opportunity to share experiences and best practices in traditional medicine worldwide, and to explore its future direction and strategies for global cooperation, including innovative approaches that combine traditional medicine with cutting-edge technologies such as AI and big data. We will continue our efforts to identify and advance innovative strategies, including the globalization of Korean medicine.”
